Chamakh Helps Gunners Draw with Liverpool

Thanks to a last-minute scramble in the box with Liverpool keeper, Pepe Reina, Marouane Chamakh saved a point for his new Gunners team on his introduction to Premier League footy.
As the cross came in Marouane went for the ball and he tangled with Reina.  When Reina tried to keep the ball out of the goal he knocked it in.  Since Reina was the last player to touch it they marked it as an own goal, and Chamakh was not credited with the goal.
Playing at Anfield for the first match of the season is tough enough, but Marouane did very well and manager Arsene Wenger was pleased with his performance:

On if this team can win something...

"We finished third last year and our ambition is to progress, to improve. I feel the two players who we bought have done well - I believe Chamakh and Koscielny had an impress performance today. We are still a bit short defensively."

On Chamakh's introduction to the Premier League...

"That is exactly what the League is all about and that is what we love here. He showed with the goal that he is not frightened to put his head and body in."

Marouane watches his ball roll into the net after Reina helped it in!
